Sunday Morning Slug Display Team
SOME OF US ride the WALTZER of self employment, sales jobs and managerial placings – but the thing is – hey, once yer strapped in that seat you can’t get off for a REST when you feel like it!!!
You can’t send the staff home suddenly, buy a years supply of magazines, two tons of chocolate and a coffee maker, then lay on the couch for 4 weeks whinging about how S**T the economy is, while the masseuse gets into your muscles for 50 minutes a day (SADLY).
Arguably however – if you work for someone else – you CAN do just that.
You can ring in sick…buy a joke plaster leg or throw vegetable soup on the floor every 25 minutes with a choking sound (that always works…I never once did a maths test). OR - you just turn up, look vacant…stand by the water cooler with a bag of files and ask what time the next cig break is (now you can’t smoke in the building).
Truly – there are some amazing people in the companies I go into…they are so on the button, so much fun and so wanting to make the best of the chance they’ve been given to EXPRESS themselves in a world of “less expression than there should be”.
Others – well …it’s like a ****** slug display team on a Sunday morning.
Work is not just about the money, it’s the camaraderie – the belonging, the creation of things and the DOING THE BEST WITH WHAT YOU WERE GIVEN.
Maybe it’s lack of confidence or self esteem that’s the downward driver – particularly in younger people… if “TEAMWORK” means that everybody in your team agrees life in that company is **** then truly…YES we ARE done.
If “meetings” conclude that YES – we are finished by the economy…and you only have a contributing value to the world if you’ve had a boob job (I have) or that you are a famous singer (I’m not) then we need to give these people some care and – you might call it “sales training” and “attitude development” so they can flip and be BRILLIANT…or if they still want to kick off…then let them go lay down all day and give that way of thinking and behaving their 100% attention.
Let some great kid with a dream or willing older person take their place, create the “THE IMPOSSIBLE” and know what it feels like to BE somebody. This is not a time to shilly shally around, we have to jump right in with some fast action.
HONEST – I’ve been in businesses where I’ve literally found shop assistants laying down behind the counter when the shop is full, hiding in the back when there’s anything to do and **the worst** verbally attacking me in a “very graphic manner” ‘cos I dared ask them to stop ignoring the customers who were around their counters trying to BUY!!!
The place I’m in now (I can’t give you the name) is full of people who have once hit hard times…REALLY hard times. One AMAZING manager there was homeless and is now a successful single parent who should be so proud of herself.
It’s 100% phone sales and they deserve to rocket…into the freakin’ STRATOSPHERE.
The people there have all, hour by hour, day by day… sold themselves into a better life and I tell you what…I won’t leave until we know they ALL have what they need to be the SOMEBODY they deserve to BE.
I’ll help anybody…and in boomtime I may have more patience with the duffers who really just skank the system till they see it’s only themselves they’re hurting – but the people who really want to BE UP THERE – TRY – TAKE A RISK AS A BRAVE SOUL???
They make my freakin’ HEART SING and they are the angels of our future.
(THERE see – I get more like BILLY GRAHAM every single day).
