Mum, your blog is S**t…..knock it off
Well – it’s been a funny little week of family love…(and a very brave comment from DHANI BOY).
My DHANI BOY was home last weekend (see his brave quote and photo…he saw that even though he’s got much bigger, thanks to 22,000 hours in the gym – and at 6ft 3inches, he was still gonna have to duck a PUNCH from his frail old knackered mother, once his ‘testimonial “ had reached my ear area).
I’d taken him to the THE AMAZING 3 ACRES AT Shelley. The table had been booked for weeks – that’s “our thing” me and our Dhani…eating out…(me) talking – me telling him my VERY BIG intentions, me telling him what he should do with his life, what jeans he should wear, what kind of pie making, mother in law loving, child bearing , shopping queen bird he should date… him eating with a glazed look in his eyes (and mentally telling me to “DO ONE”).
Me telling him about my wildest crazy dreams – and him telling me HIS.
We’ve been eating in cafes and restaurants twice a month where possible since he was 18 months old and it’s my GREATEST JOY…(to HIM the worst job he has to do to get his allowance).
While we were eating I looked up and said… “HEY – did you know I’m off to VEGAS and LA for 3 weeks next Thursday??? “
I couldn’t believe it!!! I hadn’t even told him, I just FORGOT I’ve been so busy – but the best thing so far all year (apart from the MASSIVE NUMBERS my lovely London company are doing…you know who you ARE)…was seeing him shake his head and smiling in a “that’s me mum…you GO girl” kinda way.
He’s saying: “YOU GET YOURSELF OFF MUM – you LOVE America” …and I’m saying “THE WORLD IS YOURS BOY – after UNI and EVERTON FC (where he works as an intern) go get WHAT YOU WANT IN LIFE”.
PROOF – NO MATTER WHAT AGE IN THIS TIME IN HISTORY – WE CAN LIVE A LIFE OF EXCITEMENT AND EXPANSION …with adversity come POSSIBILITY for the next chapter.
When Dhani went on Sunday I was lonely. I mean it – I dropped him off at the train and felt a bit of a lost old speaking superstar.
We’ve been on our own a long time – and live in different cities now….those lunches with him are precious.
But nothings changed, AND IT NEVER WILL – from me sitting in Holmfirth cafes on a Saturday telling him all about how much I’d sold in design services 16 years ago …and him telling me about his school spelling test to now in 2012 him telling me (at 21) about his dissertation and me (at 54) saying I’m flying half way around the world to do a gig.
BOOK HERE FOR VEGAS http://www.lifechoicesevent.com 26 OF THE GREATEST SPEAKERS ON THE PLANET — AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHO YOU’LL BE SAT BY!!!
That connection and sharing will always be there, and it is totally still one my main DRIVERS – telling Dhani boy about my life…the WHYS as to what I DO.
So it may be odd for our kids to see who we have become…maybe my blogs ARE **** to a 21 year old who wants his mum to ‘’not tell people she’d like a night with Kevin Costner”. (LINK TO THAT BLOG HERE).
We laughed for 10 minutes at all this. THAT’S worth every ****t blog I ever put out!!!
On Thursday (sorry to those who couldn’t get tickets, it sold out in 3 weeks) I was speaking at a hotel in Scarborough – Just a 100 of us.
I told this story, and somehow it made me feel closer to him – it’ll be EASTER before we meet again.
There’s a big price to all this going out and getting the world…we don’t see our kids like we’d like to. But when we do – OMG it’s just JOY and there is something to SHARE.
I hope he’s proud of his oddball old mum– and continues to be a LITTLE AMUSED.
(GOD – HE amuses ME).
Speak soon.
Take care until THEN….

Great post Nicky… I love the way you have mastered the ability to write as you talk! I even hear your words in your accent coming off the page!

Hi Nicky,
I hope you are well. I just wanted to let you know how much me, Justine and Tracey love reading your blog.
Every week we look forward to receiving it and we all have a little discussion amongst ourselves at some point about what we thought (always positive).
It makes us laugh, think and motivates us. I particularly enjoyed your most recent one about you and your son. I have a 3 year old little boy and if I have as great a relationship as what you clearly have with your son, then I will be forever happy.
We look forward to reading the next one…and the one after that!
Kind regards

‘…me (at 54)’ – you sure you haven’t got those numbers the wrong way round – have a great bank holiday weekend.
By the way how’s the weather – when I lived there with the raining p*ssing sideways into my head & the wind rearranging my teeth all I heard from the dales farmers were ‘plain to middlin’ sort ‘o day’

Great blog Nicky. Kids, don’t you just love ‘em. I have one son working for me and the other one used to until I told him to go and find another job, which he did and now earns more than me.
Reminded me of an old quote by Henry Winkler (the Fonz)
“By the time I realised that my father was right, I had a son telling me I was wrong”
Keep up the Good work.
